先觀察魚況再下手挑魚(Observe the condition of the fish before picking the goldfish)

       記得剛開始買金魚時，根本沒向店家問清楚狀況就挑魚，一次就挑很多條，等到買回家魚出狀況才後悔，經過幾次教訓後，現在挑魚前必先觀察魚況。

       首先，察看魚隻有無明顯外傷，外傷多半是因高密度裝袋在運送途中碰撞造成；其次，注意魚隻是否活潑，一般正常的金魚除吃飼料外，應在魚缸中層活動，若一直摩擦魚缸壁（底）或體表有白色黏膜，多半是體外寄生蟲感染；若一直浮於水面或沉在缸底或體位不正常（側翻、翻肚、頭下尾上垂直倒立）或泳姿不正常，多半是得了浮鰾病或體內寄生蟲感染；若溶氧量充足但還是一直抬鼻呼吸(吃空氣)、兩邊鰓蓋開閤不正常或緊閉，則多半得了鰓病；若排泄孔紅腫，多半是得了腸炎，有上述這些狀況的魚即使再美，也最好不要選購，以免愈看愈後悔。

       細心的魚友相信在挑魚的時候會注意到有些魚的鱗片會反光，是因為魚曾受傷或感染以致掉鱗，新生鱗片顏色較淺的緣故，不要以為是新品種或是有缺陷的魚。

Remembered the first time to buy goldfish without asking any information to shopkeeper, selected many goldfish one time and regretted after arrived home. After got a few lessons, have had careful selecting for getting good condition goldfish before buying. First, the outlook of goldfish should be clean and no wound. The outside wound might be caused by the high density of packaging during the transportation.  Next, see if the goldfish have cheery swimming or not, the healthy goldfish is swimming in the middle position of its tank.

When you see the goldfish has one of the following stated conditions, no matter how the goldfish looks beautiful, suggest not to buy it.

If the goldfish body has white mucous membrane or has rubbing against the tank bottom, the goldfish might have parasite on the body.  If the goldfish floating on the water or laying on the tank bottom or abnormal position (such as; upside down, laying aside, turning over), or abnormal swimming, the goldfish might caused swim bladder problem or has entozoan inside body.  Although the tank has sufficient oxygen, if the goldfish still floating the head to have breathing on the top of water level, or the side gills have abnormal switching or tightly close up, the goldfish might cause gill disease.  If the drain aperture is red and swollen, the goldfish might cause enteritis. 

A few careful goldfish fans might be aware of that some goldfish scale has glisten. This does not mean the goldfish is new type or faulty. The reason of glisten scale is the goldfish might cause infection or injured and lost the scale, the color of new scale is shallower than original one.
